Food & Drinks

"Food is our common ground, a universal experience" - James Beard

Food can be as diverse and unique as the people who make it.  For this reason, food can be a factor of discrimination and othering.  The shapes, colours, smells, and even utensils people use to eat can seem strange to those who aren't familiar.  A common Asian-Canadian experience is feeling like an outsider because of the food we eat at lunch.  In some cases, food has even been a cause for bullying.

Explore the different types of food with the following books, and you will help your students find that there's more in common than you think.
